Moscow, Russia

Moscow is the capital of the Russian Federation. It is steeped in history, is full of pride, self-indulgence, and beauty. Since the downfall of communism, travel to Moscow has exploded in the last decade. Millions flock there to see all that it has to offer

There is no other capital city in the world which holds as much historical significance for its country as Moscow does for Russia. Experience the culture, the beauty and architectural heritage of this unmissable city!

weather
The Moscow climate is moderately continental, although it is more than in other European cities. Temperature amplitude is 28 C. The cool period of the year starts in September, 29 and ends in May,10. Normally, the rainfall ranges within 540...650mm per year. The rainy period lasts from April to October. The duration of the severe snow period is estimated thus: November, 26 - April, 11. The height of the snow cover reaches 35 cm in the end of winter. Atmospheric pressure, that doesn't strongly change during the year, is 747mm. Winds in Moscow may blow in any direction, but during periods of warm weather the north-western winds prevail, while the south-western winds are proper to cool seasons. Weather is rather unstable in Moscow, and the weather forecast service is the most common object for jokes. One of possible reasons justifying not quite reliable forecasts is a considerable temperature amplitude between parts of Moscow, it may reach 10 C in spring or autumn.

Ecomony
Moscow is the leading industrial centre in Russia and more than half of the workforce is occupied in heavy manufacturing, such as engineering and metal work, to produce cars, lorries and machine tools. The textile industry is the city’s second biggest employer. The main business areas are along Tverskaya ulitsa and at central business centres in the area, such as World Trade Centre and Riverside Towers.

Western manufacturing companies based in the capital, such as General Electric, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Peugeot, Rank Xerox, Sun Microsystems and Siemens continue to develop their brands in Russia but have reported massive decreases in sales since the 1998 crash. Inspite of the huge job losses in the West, following September 11, large corporations have shown no major signs of pulling out of Moscow. One of the main reasons is that due to closer ties between Presidents Bush and Putin, Russia, with a quarter of the world’s oil reserves outside the Middle East, may bring more trade and industry to Moscow. http://travelpuppy.com/russia/moscow/city-stats.htm

population
Moscow has a population of around 11 million, and covers an area of around 900 square kilometres. The influx of people from other parts of Russia, and to a lesser extent from the adjoining successor states of the former Soviet Union, now accounts for most of the city's growth. Moscow attracts people in search of jobs, better living conditions, and the excitement of the city; it also serves as a stopover point for many of those leaving the country. Russians are the largest ethnic group in Moscow. There are also sizable numbers of Jews (considered both an ethnic and religious group in Russia), Ukrainians, Belarusians, and Tatars, as well as increasing numbers of non-Russian refugees and other immigrants from Afghanistan, Caucasia, the Baltic States, and Central Asia. Orthodox Christianity is the predominant religion in Moscow. The city also has communities of Protestants, Muslims, Jews, and Roman Catholics. Russian is the first language of most Muscovites, or residents of Moscow.

Cost of living
How much you spend in Moscow depends totally on your lifestyle, and despite being recently listed as the 4th most expensive city in the world, you can enjoy a very good standard of living here without spending a fortune, if you know where to shop and how to get around. But if you want to splash out on something special, there's plenty to choose from! the cost of livin of the city is 117.4.
